MUTOKO – Munashe High Private School has once again demonstrated its growing reputation as a sporting powerhouse after producing an impressive performance across multiple disciplines during the recently concluded Mutoko District sporting competitions. The school emerged as one of the standout performers, clinching district titles in soccer and volleyball while also securing individual selections for provincial representation, underlining its commitment to holistic learner development through sport.
The biggest highlight of the competitions came from the school’s Under-16 boys’ soccer team, which displayed remarkable skill, discipline and determination on its way to being crowned Mutoko District Champions. Placed in a challenging group alongside Makosa High School and Chatiza High School, Munashe began their campaign with a convincing 2-0 victory over Chatiza before producing another commanding 2-0 win against Makosa. The two victories ensured a perfect record of six points and a place in the semi-finals.
In the last four encounter against Bondamakara High School, the boys delivered one of their best performances of the tournament, securing a comprehensive 3-0 victory to book a place in the final. The champion-ship match against Mutoko High School proved to be a thrilling contest that showcased the best of district soccer. Both teams battled fiercely throughout normal time and extra time, but neither side could find the breakthrough, forcing the match into a penalty shootout.
After both teams successfully converted their first five penalties, the contest moved into sudden death. Munashe calmly converted their sixth kick before their goalkeeper produced a heroic save to deny Mutoko High and hand the school a memorable district championship. The dramatic victory sparked celebrations among players, coaches and supporters as Munashe lifted the coveted district trophy and secured qualification for the provincial competitions.
The school’s success extended beyond the football field as the Under-17 boys’ volleyball team also emerged district champions after a series of impressive performances. The team first overcame All Souls High School in the semi-finals before meeting Mutoko Central High School in a tense and highly competitive final. Showing resilience, teamwork and composure under pressure, the Munashe boys won the decisive third set to seal victory and add another district title to the school’s growing trophy cabinet.
The volleyball programme enjoyed further success through the girls’ team, which also distinguished itself during the district competitions. Their impressive performances culminated in a runners-up finish, further demonstrating the depth of talent within the school’s sporting structures.Meanwhile, Munashe athletes continued to excel on individual merit. Three talented learners earned selection into the Zonal Netball Team and will represent the district at provincial level after impressing selectors with their skill, discipline and commitment.
Adding to the school’s achievements, promising basketball player Tinotenda Musekiwa was selected to join the Mutoko District Under-20 Girls’ Basketball Team and will also proceed to the provincial championships. The school’s basketball teams also competed strongly during the district competitions held at All Souls High School. The boys narrowly missed a place in the semi-finals after a tightly contested group stage in which Munashe, Mutoko Central and All Souls each recorded one win and one loss. The girls progressed to the semi-finals before eventually bowing out against Mutoko High School after a spirited display.
Speaking after the competitions, Sports Director Mr A. T. Nyambo praised the athletes, coaches, administration and wider school community for their collective efforts.“These achievements are the result of hard work, discipline, commitment and teamwork from everyone involved. Our players represented the school with distinction and demonstrated the values that Munashe High stands for. We are proud of every learner who participated and look forward to even greater success at provincial level,” he said.
School authorities also acknowledged the unwavering support provided by the administration and executive leadership, whose investment in sports development continues to create opportunities for learners to excel beyond the classroom. The latest achievements reinforce Munashe High Private School’s growing reputation as an institution committed to nurturing excellence in academics, leadership, culture and sport. As the district champions now prepare for the provincial stage, expectations remain high that they will continue to raise the school flag and represent Mutoko with distinction.
