Munetsi unfazed

that he was in charge, he revealed that he was busy organising the club’s trip for a charity game in South Africa on Saturday.
DeMbare was plunged into chaos on Monday when the club’s board of directors advised the Zifa and the PSL leadership of their decision to boot out the executive led by Munetsi.

There were reports that the country’s biggest football club – which has been hit by several lawsuits from former players claiming their dues – is being choked by a staggering US$500 000 debt.
DeMbare directors, who met in Harare on Saturday, overwhelmingly voted to dissolve the club’s leadership led by Munetsi.

EARLIER REPORT

The directors are scheduled to meet in Harare again today to discuss the issue amid reports last night that they will not move from their position to dissolve the leadership.
“There is a meeting of the old men in Harare on Wednesday and they will discuss the events that have unfolded after they handed the letters to Zifa and the PSL,” said sources.
“They are also looking at having an interim structure to run the club, for now, until all outstanding issues have been resolved.

“It’s a tricky period and while the board chairman Richard Chiminya appears to be softening, in his stance, the others are adamant and their decision is final.”
An interim executive is scheduled to be appointed at today’s meeting.

Vice-chairman Kenny Mubaiwa, secretary-general Simon Sachiti, treasurer Harrison Mbewe and committee members, Nyika Chifamba and Harare businessman, J. Kanokanga, were all swept away by the tide.
Yesterday some of the executive members swept away by the changes approached a Harare lawyer, who has represented the club in other matters, as they started the process to try and nullify the decision to fire them.

Munetsi told The Herald yesterday that he had not received any official communication, related to the changes effected in the executive committee, and – as far as he was concerned – it was business as usual.
“I only heard about it from the grapevine and I cannot comment on that issue because I haven’t received any correspondence from the Dynamos board of directors to that effect,” said Munetsi.
“If it happened that they sent the letter to my office then I could not have seen it because I am not at work at the moment.”

Munetsi is currently on leave and the directors’ letter was sent to his workplace at Nestle Zimbabwe.
The letter, which was sent to his workplace and copied to Zifa, the PSL and BancABC, spoke of “termination of chairmanship appointment of Dynamos Football Club.”

“The Board of Directors of Dynamos Football Club (Pvt) Ltd, at their recent meeting held on Saturday, 25th of June 2011, unanimously resolved to dissolve the present Executive Committee of Dynamos Football Club, which they hereby do,” read the letter.

“You have now ceased being Chairman of Dynamos Football Club with effect from 25th of June, 2011. Please be advised that the board is not obliged to give, or state, the reason for this action.
“The Board of Directors of Dynamos Football Club (Pvt) Ltd, would like to take this opportunity to graciously thank you, Sir, for the help and assistance you rendered to the club during your tenure. You greatly and immensely assisted Dynamos to realise its dream and aspirations.”

Similar letters, signed by Dynamos board Acting Secretary, Bernard Marriot Lusengo, were also sent to ousted vice-chairman Mubaiwa, secretary-general Sachiti, treasurer Mbewe and committee members, Chifamba and Kanokanga.

Another letter was sent to PSL chief executive, Kenny Ndebele, advising him of the changes made in the club’s structures.
“The Board of Directors of Dynamos Football Club (Pvt) Ltd, at their recent meeting held on Saturday, 25th of June 2011, unanimously resolved to dissolve the present Executive Committee of Dynamos Football

Club, with effect from 25th June 2011,” read the letter.
“You will be advised of the new Executive Committee in due course.”

Munetsi yesterday said he was busy, working on a Dynamos project, which confirmed that he was still in charge of the club’s executive.
“Right now as we speak, I am busy organising the trip for the team to go to South Africa for the friendly match against Orlando Pirates this weekend,” he said.

“The team is scheduled to leave on Friday morning. “
The Glamour Boys are set to be paid an appearance fee of R90 000, in the charity game, which is being supported by the City of Johannesburg.

It also emerged yesterday that Dynamos will only play a Pirates’ developmental side as the first team players, who won the South African league championship, are still on holiday.
Pirates will only start pre-season training on Sunday, a day after the charity game, which makes it impossible for the Buccaneers to field their first team players in Saturday’s game.

“It’s more of an exhibition game than anything else and that is why there could be guest players like Edelbert Dinha and Thabang Lebese,” said the sources in South Africa.
“Pirates will probably field those players on trials at the club and some of their developmental players because all the first team players are on holiday.”

The Glamour Boys struggled to make an impact, in the Champions League this year, after being knocked out in the first round for the first time in 30 years.
The club’s executive has struggled to run the team, overwhelmed by the operating costs, and reports that Dynamos were now being accommodated in sub-standard lodges.

Dynamos recently tied a deal with BancABC who will pump in US$100 000 into the club this year, with part of that money going into the salaries of the players and technical staff, while the other chunk will cover costs related to kit and transport.

Chiminya believes that since Munetsi and his team now had BancABC on their side to cater for some of the key running expenses, they needed to be given time to run the club without being weighed down by the challenge that comes from failure to pay the players their salaries.
Dynamos have a history of boardroom squabbles.
