“The storm is now over. We had a successful meeting here in Chitungwiza,” said Marshall Jnr.
Early this month a bitter wrangle erupted after Nyamandi recorded his latest album “Marambadoro” with The Four Brothers as his backing group.
This did not go down well with Marshall Jnr, who through the family lawyer Vasco Shamu of Shamu and Associates, filed a lawsuit against Nyamandi for using the name without the family’s consent.
Responding to the lawsuit, Nyamandi claimed that he was given the go-ahead to use the name by the Minister of Media, Information and Publicity, Cde Webster Shamu, who is also the patron of the Zimbabwe Union of Musicians.
Marshall Jnr also ordered Nyamandi to stop masquerading as the leader of The Four Brothers, but was given the nod to play any of the songs by his late father.
Nyamandi confirmed that he would no longer use the name to “avoid trouble”.
“I thought I was keeping the late Marshall’s legacy alive, but it looks like I was wrong and I have to avoid unnecessary trouble,” he said.
Nyamandi assumed leadership of the Four Brothers in 1997 after Marshall Munhumumwe suffered a stroke. This was after Tymon Mabaleka, the then producer of The Four Brothers, realised Nyamandi’s voice was very similar to the late Munhumumwe’s.
However, Nyamandi briefly left the band to form Makombe Brothers after being booted out by the original Four Brothers members.
After Frank Sibanda’s death in 2010 the last surviving member of the Four Brothers Nyamandi then decided to use the name Four Brothers instead of Makombe Brothers.
