MASHONALAND East Volleyball Association Most Valuable Player, Vimbayi Munyaradzi, is basking in glory after helping Ruwa win the provincial championship.
After going the entire stretch of the season unbeaten, Ruwa beat Riverside, in the final at Windview Primary School in Zimre Park, on Saturday.
Munyaradzi was key to the success.
“I would like to thank the Almighty for making this dream come true,’’ said Munyaradzi.
“I would also want to thank the Ruwa executive, and my coach, for giving us the opportunity to participate in the MEVA league games, not forgetting my husband Blessing Machaka, for supporting me.
“The games were very fierce and the lionesses were hungry for the ball but we managed to come out tops.
“I was nominated for the MVP, which came as a shock, as I was not expecting it because it was a fierce battle, everyone was working so hard for the title.
“I would like to thank my teammates and I believe together we can keep the ball flying.”
Her teammates, Precious Mandingo and Morleen Benhura, were voted the best blocker and receiver.
The best attacker prize went to Adeline Mashumba of Riverside with her teammate, Nancy Jacob, getting the best setter award.
The men’s battle between Ruwa and Marondera Tigers was yet to be concluded when the rains pounded the area.
That match, which has a bearing on who will be crowned champions, has now been scheduled for Saturday next week.
MEVA chairman, Thulisani Zarima, hailed the teams for the way they fought for honours.
MPS and Moonlight Funeral Services were some of the major sponsors of the league.
