Talent Simbi
ZIMBABWE international Film and Festival Trust front man Mr Nigel Munyati, has called for the promotion of local talent in film and theatre, saying it will create employment opportunities.
Mr Munyati made these sentiments in their last stop over in Nyanga after completing filming plays in Lupane, Hwange, Binga, Chipinge, Chimanimani and Mutare.
“The creative industry can sustain livelihoods if given the attention it deserves in this country. The experience has been quite fantastic and for some it could be the beginning of a career.
“We are empowering people to write about their culture and issues affecting their own lives in their own languages,” he said.
Munyati also welcomed the digitalisation of Zimbabwean television saying it was the dawn of a new era.
“The introduction of digitalisation will obliviously bring an unprecedented demand for content which locals will perform best.
“Let people tell their own stories,” he added. Mr Munyati’s ZIFFT, Mr Conte Mhlanga’s Amakhosi and Rooftop Promotions led by Mr Davis Guzha are steering a pilot project code-named Hotshekoche in which they are giving ordinary Zimbabweans a chance to write and act various plays in theatre, television and radio in their respective districts.
This pilot project is only covering Matebeleland North and Manicaland provinces.
