the style.
Previously, the Old Hararians Sports Club dojo was known as the Dentokan Dojo but Murambiwa has taken over under the Jindokai flag.
“It’s a matter of starting a legacy of my own over the years I have been privileged to train under a lot of teachers locally and internationally but it’s now my turn to give back what I have learnt over the years.
“The style that I have always done has always targeted the high density suburbs like Mbare, Mabvuku, Epworth, Hatcliffe, Ruwa and Warren Park,” said Murambiwa.
Murambiwa is popularly known as a rugby coach having coached for two decades during which he took charge of the Sables, the Young Sables and and Old Harraians.
He is currently the Under-18 schools coach and technical advisor to the Zimbabwe Rugby Union.
While he has been in rugby, he has also taken karate as a parallel sport and holds a fourth Dan black belt in Shorin Ryu karate, has a second Dan black belt in Goju Ryu as well as a first Dan black belt in Aiki-Jijitsu.
However, the former Sables coach feels that he will not always be in rugby and towards the end of last year he resigned from the Young Sables where he was the assistant coach, just weeks after resigning from coaching Prince Edward School.
“As you can see I can’t be a rugby coach forever, karate has been my passion for years and I had my first karate lesson in 1982 when I had just started high school and I have always said it’s something I want to do.
“I am not just concentration on being a teacher but I am also looking at getting my referees’ qualification in Botswana in March.”
While the style is popular among the high-density karatekas, Murambiwa said the move to introduce it at Old Hararians Sports Club was because the area is more central.
“Well the beauty is there are also students from the low density areas and Old Hararians is central and our students from the high density can come and train whenever they want in a high tech dojo with tatami (mats), showers and the like. Murambiwa added that he is looking at bringing a number of masters to Zimbabwe this year.
“Stephen Chan is a regular visitor to Zimbabwe and he is one of the guys we have on our list and we expect him sometime in March and we also have Brian Rodgers who is an eighth Dan black belt holder in Aiki-Jijitsu and he is set for August.
