HAB set to meet next week

is slated for January 29.
HAB secretary general, Sailus Muringani said they will discuss several issues concerning the province as they hope to improve the standard of the sport.

“We are meeting next week on the 29th to discuss further issues including the calendar of events.
“We also want to come up with a four-year strategic plan. We want to map out what we want to do for the next four years like when we came into office in 2009 we had a four-year strategic plan,” said Muringani.

Muringani said the meeting will be an opportunity to evaluate the election and orientation for some of the new members.
“We have to revisit the election and come out with an evaluation. It will also see the orientation of some members who have not been in the board. We won’t necessarily be doing the hand-over-takeover because most of the guys were retained in office,” Muringani said.

The HAB secretary-general said they are looking forward to a better year in terms of competition.
“In terms of competition we should be able to come tops in most of the competitions that we have been doing well and improve in the competitions that we didn’t do well last year like the National Youth Games.

“We are also looking at engaging more sponsors so that we increase our sponsorship for the athletes.
“On developmental issues we have been working with ZOC (Zimbabwe Olympic Committee) on the 13-15 athletics programme and Dairibord to identify talent and we have said we need more sponsors to partner us so that we develop and nurture that talent we would have identified.

“We are also looking at the 2016 Olympic Games, we should at least have a local born athlete participating in the track and field events.
“On human development we feel that we need to churn out more courses into the districts.

For example Chitungwiza have very few athletes coming from there especially in the Nash events but we know that Chitungwiza is the home for most of our long distance runners like Collen Makaza and Stephen Muzhingi,” said Muringani.
The meeting will be attended by the board members.
