The late businessman, Joseph Mutangadura, who was buried yesterday, has been described as a pillar of strength, who did not hesitate to help those in need.

Mutangadura, who was killed in a suspected armed robbery case last Sunday was buried at Goromonzi Turnoff Cemetery.

He was 67.

Thousands of people, from all walks of life gathered at the cemetery to pay their last respects.

In an interview with Zimpapers, family spokesperson Elliot Mutangadura, who is the son to the late businessman, said the family was devastated by the loss.

“I do not know how to explain the pain we have as a family. We are hurt,” he said. “He was someone we loved and he loved us. He was loved by many people and he was always there for us. The family has lost a strong pillar and the void he left will be felt, it will be hard to fill.”

Elliot thanked Government, as well as the community for support.

“From the day Mr Mutangadura died, we have been receiving support from many people, including from the Government,” he said. “Ministers as well as other Government officials came to console us.

“We feel humbled by the overwhelming community support. We finally buried my father and we thank everyone for being there for us.”

Elliot said he was hopeful that police will bring the culprits to book.

“We are optimistic that those who did this to him will be caught. I trust our police. I have faith in them,” he said.

The community was left grieving and testified of his good works.

“Mr Mutangadura was one man who did not hesitate to assist whenever he could. I think you can see for yourself the huge crowd gathered here,” said Ms Kudzayi Ndlovu from Goromonzi.

“In fact, a lot of people came since the day he died and some did not return to their homes. This is how he is being mourned. We have lost someone who helped the vulnerable, a father and an employer.

“As a community, our wish is for the police to catch the culprits.”

Meanwhile, police said investigations into the murder case are ongoing.
