Growing up in a rural set-up where football was the only sport that could keep them entertained in spare time, Munashe Nandolo could not imagine one day playing professional football.
Years after finding himself playing social soccer at a popular joint known as Pagejo paRuby in Murehwa, Nandolo could have kept his dream to star in his local area and never entertained dreams of going beyond that.
Years after bursting onto the social football scene in Murehwa, Nandolo is now leaving his dream of playing professional football and even dreaming more.
“I started off my career as a young kid playing social soccer at Pagejo PaRuby in Murehwa and to be honest I never thought that one day I would be playing professional football,” said Nandolo.
Playing with older players at the farming joint required the young Nandolo to be extraordinary, a feat he achieved becoming one of the most sought players for the Murehwa social teams.
The football gods were to smile on the young player as he was snatched by Division One side JM Busha after a social soccer match at Murehwa Cross.
“It is a dream for every unprofessional footballer to play professional football.
“I remember we had visited Murehwa Cross for our routine social soccer matches and surprisingly after the game Cliff Dzvairo came and asked me if I could join JM Busha.
“Like I said it is a dream of every unprofessional footballer to play professional football, I jumped to the offer without thinking twice,” said Nandolo.
Determined to make a living out of soccer, the young midfielder had his own frustrations as things did not turn out to be what he imagined leading him to cut his dream short.
“After signing for JM Busha things did not turn out as I imagined and I called it quits so that I could look for a better paying job,” said Nandolo.
It took the convincing of Dzvairo to persuade Nandolo to return to football.
“As someone who is passionate about football, after enduring the frustrations I had gone through, coach Cliff persuaded me for a comeback.
“If you are a football player it is difficult to walk away from the sport so after our discussion with coach Dzvairo I decided to give it another chance signing for St Paul Musami.
“I am happy to be with the club,” said Nandolo.
Joining St Paul Musami has revived his football dream, which at one point he had let go.
“I think being given a second chance to play football again is God’s plan and I believe with him my dream of playing at the highest level and the national team will be achieved,” he said.
Nandolo has since regained his touch in the Eastern Region Division One with four assists and five goals in 11 matches.
The St Paul Musami attacking midfielder currently trails the leading top goal scorer in the Eastern Region Division One by three goals.
With the season going into its second and final phase, Nandolo is hoping to play a pivotal role in helping his team finish the season in a respectable position.
