A Murewa businessman, Mr Sam Mapingure, has pledged to build an early childhood development centre and a new classroom block at Zhombwe Primary and Secondary Schools, after donating cash to teachers and pupils, computers and stationery at the weekend.
The businessman donated 10 HP laptops, a Starlink mini kit, 400 stationary hampers and pledged to pay school fees for 20 underprivileged students at both schools.
Mr Mapingure also gave over US$1 500 in cash to teachers and students who performed well this year.
Zhombwe is a primary school located in Murewa District, Mashonaland East Province and it is one of the best primary schools officially registered with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE) in the district.
In an interview, Mr Mapingure said he will spearhead the construction of an ECD block at Zhombwe, which lacks infrastructure to meet the demand of its student population, nearing over a thousand.
“As part of giving back to the community, we will continue assisting both teachers and pupils at these two schools and building infrastructure.
“The ECD block will also be concurrently built with a new secondary school block and these blocks will be set for completion by the beginning of the second quarter of 2026,” he said.
Mr Mapingure said most students in Wards 2 and 8 in the area were forced to walk for long distances to Magaya Secondary School and the construction of a block at Zhombwe Secondary School will address this challenge in fulfilment of President Mnangagwa’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind.
Last year, the businessman donated office furniture worth thousands of dollars to police Murewa District to help in their fight against crime.
Mr Mapingure handed over the furniture to the Officer Commanding Murewa District, Chief Superintendent Richard Moyo for distribution to police stations in the area.
