Taona Toma walked away with the silver medal while Michael Mudyana-dzo won the bronze medal in the same category.

The intellectually challenged athletes competed in three categories — skills, nine holes and 18 holes.
A total of 30 participants, drawn from special schools and institutions, took part with four of the players coming from Bulawayo.

However, in the spirit of Special Olympics movement, the competition is not meant to find winners but to enhance the athletes’ self-esteem through sports.

The most outstanding players walked away with medals while each athlete received a certificate and a ribbon from guest of honour, Harare mayoress Fikile Masunda

The nine-hole event had George Tandi lifting gold, John Duncan getting silver and seasoned player Rodwell Mandibaya walking away with a bronze medal.

The A Division skills category had Christian Bauti, Faith Chauringa and Gamuchirai Mbato winning the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.

The national golf competition marked the last sporting event on the Special Olympics Zimbabwe calendar for the year.

SOZ national director, Molly Matambanashe, yesterday paid tribute to all the athletes, officials, sponsors, volunteers and family members who have been supportive of their activities.
