Singer Prince Musarurwa who was billed to perform at the SunBird Sand Music Festival to be held in Malawi end of this month has withdrawn due other commitments. The annual festival will run from August 29 to 31 in central Malawi at Livintonia Beach in Salima. The festival is meant to unite artistes as well as promote the young and upcoming artistes around the world.
In an interview with Herald Entertainment, Musarurwa said he withdrew from the festival because it clashed with another project.
“I am no longer going to participate at the festival because the dates are clashing with the days l will be in Kenya recording a video ‘I must speak with you’ a song I collaborated with Ugandan singer Daisy Ejang in June,” he said.
Musarurwa said he was also preparing for the Summer Festival to be held in the United Kingdom in October that will feature Jah Prayzah and Thomas Mapfumo.
“I have started preparing for the festival which will take place in October where l will be sharing the stage with big names in the music industry,” he said.
However, Afro-pop musician Nikki Magunda will be the only one who will proceed to the Malawian festival.
“I feel honoured to be invited again to the festival based on my last year’s performance .
“This has shown me that people in Malawi appreciate my music.
“I will take this opportunity to raise my country’s flag high and I prmose a top drawere perfomance at the festiva; I want my fans in that country to have a great time, also I will be sampling some of my new material at the show as well, so I am very confident of myself at the event.
“It is quite unfortunate I am no longer going with my brother Musarurwa,” he said.
Nikki is one of the upcoming afro-pop artistes to watch out for.
He started his music career in 2012 with the release of single called “No Matter What” featuring Pierra.
Artistes who performed at the festival last year include Big Nuz, DJ Flavour, Oga Family from Zambia, Paul Banda, Masukusi Band, Thoko Katimba and George Mkandawire.
The music festival which is meant to unite southern African countries through music will see musicians from South Africa, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia performing at the event.
