THE MANICA Post News Editor Cletus Mushanawani added another feather on his growing cap of accolades after being named Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe best print media reporter of the year first runner-up.The awards were presented at a colourful ceremony held at the Rainbow Towers in Harare last Friday and attended by captains of industries, TSCZ officials and media personalities.
For his efforts, Mushanawani received a medal and cash prize.
Mushanawani’s winning entry targeted the 1991 Regina Coeli accident survivors where they were revisiting the terror of the human error caused accident.
The citation from the judges about the article which was published in The Manica Post of February 21 to 27, 2014, reads: “This article was spot on in calling attention to one of the worst road disasters in the country. The reporter showed great initiative in tracing survivors and talking to them through the experience in the past and how it is still impacting on their lives today.
“However, the article could have been improved by going beyond mere narration by reference to sources for suggestions and solutions.
“All in all, although this article was better than most others submitted, it is clear that there is still room to improve on road safety reporting capacity.”
Chronicle’s reporter, Factmore Dzobo, scooped the first prize and was also named the Minister’s overall road safety reporter of the year.
The Manica Post was also nominated as one of the best print media houses.
