Mushekwi continues prolific China League form

NYASHA Mushekwi continues to hit the back of the net for Zhejiang Greentown Professionals in the China League who remain in the hunt for promotion to the Super League.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns forward scored a hat-trick on Sunday against Beijing Technology at the Yellow Dragon Stadium in Hangzhou to take his tally to 15 goals in 18 appearances.

Such has been Mushekwi’s form that he has now registered a goal in his club’s last five matches.

Zhejiang occupies third place, just two points behind joint leaders Chengdu Rongcheng and Meizhou Hakka just past the halfway stage in the title race.

The top two teams gain promotion to the Chinese Super League, while third and fourth head into a promotion play-off.

Mushekwi is the firm favourite to win the league’s golden boot award come the end of the season with his nearest challenger Ruofan Liu four goals behind.

Alongside a hat-trick from Sunday, a red-hot Mushekwi has also slammed three braces and half of his club’s goals’ tally this season.

With his 15 goals this season, Mushekwi has now reached double figures on seven consecutive occasions since his first season at Sundowns.

The 34-year-old is now into his sixth year in the Far East and is remembered fondly in South Africa after scoring 40 goals in 53 starts while at Sundowns.
A notable milestone for the player was when through his vast earnings he was able to purchase a team bus worth R1.7 million for former club Caps United in Zimbabwe. – KickOff
