SHANGHAI, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) – ZIMBABWE international forward, Nyasha Mushekwi, scored his fourth goal of the season on Saturday.
The ageless forward helped Zhejiang Greentown to force a 1-1 draw away at high-flying Shanghai Port in the 14th round of the 2022 Chinese Super League.
Zhejiang broke the deadlock just 37 seconds into the game, as Shanghai defender Zhang Linpeng’s mistake in the box allowed Mushekwi to tap in easily.
It was the quickest goal in the CSL this season.
However, Zhang made amends for his previous fault by assisting his teammate Lyu Wenjun in the 15th minute.
The latter received an accurate long pass from Zhang, dribbled through Zhejiang defender Dong Yu, and beat goalkeeper Gu Chao one-on-one to pull one back for Shanghai.
Zhejiang created a scoring chance in the 72nd minute, but Mushekwi’s header following a corner kick flew over the crossbar.
After the draw, Shanghai ranked seventh in the table, followed by Zhejiang two points behind.
Shanghai head coach Ivan Leko voiced hopes that the team could notch a higher ranking, but now they should “talk less and do more.”
Zhejiang will face Cangzhou Mighty Lions tomorrow, while Shanghai will encounter Tianjin Jinmen Tiger on Saturday. Enditem
Meanwhile, Mushekwi’s former club, Dalian Pro, have had their transfer embargo lifted, the Chinese Super League (CSL) side announced on Thursday.
Dalian Pro were banned by world football governing body FIFA from introducing any new players in May until their salary disputes are settled.
The Dalian club have reportedly been working towards having the embargo lifted after they were brought up to the CSL from the second tier at the eleventh hour to fill the gap left by disbanded Chongqing Liangjiang Athletic in late May.
“The transfer embargo imposed on our club has been lifted,” Dalian Pro said in a statement on Thursday.
The Dalian side were not able to feature any new signings in their next game against Cangzhou Mighty Lions last week as they need time to be registered with the CSL, the statement added.
