MUTARE-born talented versatile artist, Knowledge Mushohwe is tonight (Friday) expected to showcase his art works at Mutare Gallery of Zimbabwe in an illustration exhibition dubbed: “The Zimbabweans”.
Minister of Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Development, Christopher Mushohwe, is expected to grace the event that is expected to draw tens of arts enthusiasts in Mutare and beyond.
The event starts at 5pm.
In a statement, Mushohwe said the exhibition would recognise the selfless efforts and iconics such as soccer legend, Peter Ndlovu, granddad of Zimbabwe music, Oliver Mtukudzi and veteran golfer, Nick Price.
He said the exhibition would also depict some of the country’s best known liberation heroes and philanthropists such as Amai Grace Mugabe and Jairos Jiri “names synonymous with love, care and kindness, values that epitomises the very nature of the Zimbabwean public”.
Reads part of the statement: “While this exhibition highlights and celebrates the lives and contributions of our war heroes, it also recognises the achievements of some of Zimbabwe’s most illustrious sons and daughters, people that have become national icons or dominated so much in their respective fields that the whole world noticed. . . . This exhibition is only the start and the artist hopes that whenever we as a country celebrate the lives of our liberation heroes, we also pause the achievement of other distinguished Zimbabweans.”
Mushohwe was born at Mutare Provincial Hospital and grew up in Marange area of Mutare District.
Art was always a favourite pastime for the youngman and would frequently get in trouble for using charcoal to draw all around the family houses.
He did his Advanced Level studies at Prince Edward School where he had developed a distinct “cartoon-like” style to his drawings. His first editorial cartoon was published by the Financial Gazette in 1999.
He spent several years as a cartoonist at Zimpapers Group as a cartoonist and graphic designer.
Knowledge left Zimpapers early this year to take up a lecturer position at Chinhoyi University of Technology.
