IT may be over for Mushowani in the World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league championship race but their coach Paul “Popopo” Chimalizeni says their season is still alive. Mushowani have the Yadah TV Knock-out Cup to look forward to when they lock horns with Ngezi Platinum on November 29. The tournament got underway in September with eight teams competing from the quarter-final stages and Mushowani beat Gunners in the semi-final to progress to the final.
Chimalizeni said although they were focusing on concluding their league campaign on a high note by winning the last game, they have set their eyes on the Yadah TV Knock-out Cup final.
“We are out of the championship race but we need to finish on a high note and we need to win the Cup so that we have something at the end of the season.
“That’s a big motivation for the club since this is the first Cup tournament in the Northern Region, so to win the first competition will be good.
“However, we need to win our last league game so that we maintain our position and we might end up being in the top two, you never know with soccer,” Chimalizeni said.
Mushowani have been playing good football this season and they had their captain Zivanai Mhanda and Tendai Mutandi making it among the 11 best players of the year.
The best player of the year and the two runners up will be announced on November 29 at a function to be held in Harare.
“I am happy they were selected in the first year of selection and to have two players it’s good for the club, for us as a team,” said Chimalizeni.
Mushowani will take on Starbill in their last game of the season.
