Mushowani fancy their chance

WITH the top two teams in the World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league lacking consistence in the last two weeks, Mushowani are fancying their chances of winning this championship race.
Mushowani are third on the table with 51 points — six behind pacesetters, Gunners, and just three points behind Flame Lily.

Coach Paul “Popopo” Chimalizeni and his men travel to Harare for a tie against ZRP Morris this afternoon at Morris. The police side suffered a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Fame Lily in a mid-week game at Chikurubi on Wednesday.

Chimalizeni said the inconsistency by Gunners and Flame Lilly is working in their favour.

“It has worked in our favour because these two teams dropped points and I think we are now there, we just need to work hard. “We need to maintain the winning streak so that we don’t lose any game. As it stands the race is wide open,” said Chimalizeni.

The Mushowani coach, however, said they will be cautious in their approach.

“Every game is a different ball game. Morris are a good team, we are not underrating them. We are very cautious as we go into this game so that we don’t drop points.

“We need to win so that we keep close to Flame Lily and Gunners,” said Chimalizeni. Mushowani will be missing the services of striker, Tinashe Balakasi, due to an injury. In other matches, Twalumba lock horns with Starbill at Rufaro tomorrow and the latter are bubbling with confidence after beating Bindura United 1-0 in their previous encounter.

The win came in Elisha Mukusa’s first game after taking over from Patson Muzavazi who was fired for poor results. “We hope to maintain the momentum from our game against Bindura. Right now we are working hard to try and ensure that everyone is prepared and ready to play.

“Definitely, I think we are going to survive if everyone remains focused,” said Mukusa.
