Music 2 Music, Pilgrims of Christ through to Chibuku finals

Afro-traditional music group Music 2 Music from Bulawayo Province and gospel outfit Pilgrims of Christ from Mashonaland East province have secured their spots in this year’s Chibuku Road to Fame finals.

The competition in Bulawayo was held at koNjabulo Elangeni Beerhall while Mashonaland East hosted theirs at The Place in Chivhu, with both events taking place on Saturday.

Music 2 Music outperformed fellow competitors, Amani Pulse, an Afro-fusion group from Mzilikazi and Tawedzegwa, a sungura group from Bulawayo Central.

Pilgrims of Christ from Marondera District triumphed over Jungle Foxes, a sungura band from Hwedza District and V27 Express, an Afro-fusion group from Murehwa District to represent Mashonaland East.

Both provincial winners walked away with US$2 500 while the second and third-placed groups received US$1 500 and US$1 000, respectively.

At the national finals, Music 2 Music and Pilgrims of Christ will join other provincial winners: Fugees from Matabeleland South, Afro-fusion group The Outlaws from Harare, The Cousins from Midlands and Shanty Town from Mashonaland Central Province.

This Saturday, the competition will continue in Matabeleland North at Lwendulu Beerhall in Hwange and in Manicaland at Mandel Bar in Mutare.

The provincial finals will conclude on October 26 in Mashonaland West at Hustlers Bar at Murombedzi Business Centre and in Masvingo Province at Chihambakwe Beerhall in Triangle.

The national finals are scheduled for November 9 in Harare, with the venue yet to be confirmed. This year’s edition of the Chibuku Road to Fame is being held under the theme “Bvirarira, Tshay’iNgoma”.

The winner of the national finale will receive US$15 000 and a recording contract while the second and third-place winners will take home US$10 000 and US$7 500 respectively. – @mthabisi_mthire.
