Revellers’ probable first port of call will be
at the Andy Millar Hall, where music superstar Oliver Mtukudzi is scheduled to perform alongside
Suluman Chimbetu, Jah Prayzah and Munya Mataruse tonight.
This is going to be Tuku’s first show this year. And as has become the norm, Tuku’s first gigs are always a must attend for music lovers especially now that his latest album – “Sarawoga”- is climbing high on the charts with the track “Watitsvata”.
Though initially there was apathy towards the album, most fans are now warming up to the album after “Watitsvata” topped the charts for three consecutive weeks.
It will not be a busy weekend for Tuku and his allies alone, but for Alick Macheso and Progress Chipfumo who are also billed to perform at three different venues starting tonight.
The two will head to Mabvuku tonight where Macheso’s fans will have the opportunity to join him in the “Kochekera dance.”
The two musicians will then lead their entourage to Mbare tomorrow where they are expected to perform at Stodart Hall.
They are expected to further carry forward their merrymaking mission when they descend on the Harare Gardens for a family show on Sunday.
Meanwhile, on the other side of town Peter Moyo will be performing at Moonlight Night Club, Makoni Shopping Centre, Chitungwiza.
The “Young Igwe”, as he is popularly known, is expected to sample his own composition which he is scheduled to record soon.
The Utakataka frontman will be supported by a jazz group Too Open.
Mbira lovers should make a date at Gijima Bar, where Mbira Dzenharira will be performing.
The group has a running contract to perform every Friday at the joint.
At Miami Night Club, in Sunningdale dendera fans are guaranteed a night to remember when Tryson Chimbetu stages a live show.
Tryson’s manager Wayne Kembo said they would use the opportunity to sample some of the new songs from a yet to be named album.
“We are on a mission to take dendera to the next level,” he said.
A poetry slam will take centre stage at the Book Café, where unheralded poets will showcase their lyrical prowess in front of an appreciative crowd tomorrow. The best performers will walk away with prizes.
