UPCOMING sungura artist, Emmanuel “Captain Manex” Chipucha, has vowed to use his influence to fight child marriages.
The Orchestra Horizon Band frontman has dropped a new single titled “Siyai Vakure” which urges the public to desist from marrying off young girls.
The South Africa-based artist, who doubles up as a truck driver, said he was worried about rising cases of child marriages in the country.
“As an artist I am very worried about the rising cases of child marriages.
“When you move around the country, you always hear about adolescents being married or impregnated.
“I read about the nine-year-old girl who was impregnated in Bulawayo.
“I was really shocked and saddened by the issue,” said Captain Manex.
He also urged fellow artists to join forces against child marriages.
“To my fellow colleagues in the industry, I encourage them to sing against child marriages and abuse.
“I believe that if many artists do that, we can win,” he said.
The “Malume” hit-maker also said many musicians prioritise singing against drug abuse, but neglect child abuse.
“I know these days drug abuse is a pandemic in the country that’s why so many artists put major emphasis on chanting against drugs.
“But, they should balance these two, drug abuse and child marriages because all of them are now pandemics in our communities,” he added.
