Musicians should shun hate language

behind holding such a sort of a match.
The game was more of a brotherhood match, not necessarily to see who was better on that day or to make money from some of Southern Africa’s most supported teams.
But the reason Dynamos played Pirates was to give the majority of our people here in Zimbabwe as well as those out of the country especially from South Africa that we are one people.

Xenophobia has been one of the ills that I have seen afflicting our societies to an extent that brother fights brother without impunity and feels great about it later.
As you know I have good feelings for our South African brothers and sisters as I feel they are leading in the fight against imperialism afflicting us.

But I didn’t feel cool when I heard my little daughter Noomi singing, though rather discordantly the hit song from South Africa “Dubula” as I felt it had rather hate language.
One chant that I would never be comfortable with is when AKA disses our country due to the gone currency problems we used to have.
AKA no matter how I rate him highly disses Zimbabwe country though the money we had then but hey, what’s funny is when the song went out we were not using the Obamas.

The song is good and rather catchy with some moments of brilliance and rather witty deliveries, but that rather careless jibe about our country leaves a very bad taste on anyone’s palate.
I still remember what happened some time back when one of our own Oskido, released that diss but hit song Makwerekwere, which to an extent helped shape the xenophobic mentality we see here.

There is no need to be dissing each other due to where we come from or from what we look like coz at the end of the day we shall see we are one.
Showbiz is all about entertaining different people- entertainment knows no boundaries be it race, colour, creed, or nationality and that’s why you see some foreigners even selling much more than our local acts here.

I don’t think a musician should use where he comes from to publicise or market his music but rather they should just use their talents to show it out.
In fact with the soccer match that happened last weekend between Dembare and Chiefs, I was thinking of how good it would be if we were to organise a show that features some of the greatest acts from Zimbabwe, South Africa, Malawi, Zambia together.

We have seen this happening to our senior citizens like Oliver Mtukudzi, Jabu Khanyile, Ringo Madhlingozi and others but not to our youngsters, who soon shall be the torchbearers of our music.
Music like religion is the opium of society and from what we have seen, divided people have been joined together like what Bob Marley did in his native Jamaica to some political rivals who were about to kill each other.

Now is time to unite our brothers and sisters from the region and show the whole world that things are not as bad as they sound to the greater world.
Urban music is the only way forward and I can see big things happening when we unleash the likes of the Bigiman on the regional base.

Well last week I talked about promoters and its quite interesting what I have been hearing from you, here are some of your comments:
In the earlier reading I had said I think the King Shango show has been one of the best this year but others feel otherwise.

“King Shango ndiye aive akaipa, I have the DVD kana uchida.
“Also videos from the Elephant man show. Hapana godo kana apa Elephant Man paive pasina zviripo, you need to read all the reports from all the papers and you get the view yekuti there were like three different shows.

“Why don’t you open a forum mucolumn mako and get vanhu to rate the show unzwe from the public kuti vanoti chii. Ini ndakatiza one kuchikoro kuuya kushow yaShaba, ndikapinda maBuju, maFreddy saka I know what I am talking about,- Steven Mudawarima.

“The Elephant Man was the biggest show this year and it reduced your friend Winky D to size. You see you people when you are friends with someone you think by merely writing in the papers that person will be great but Winky was reduced to size,” Affable P.
