Musinami confident

semi-contact styles with all the affiliated styles expected to compete in the event pencilled for September 8.
The tournament was originally set for August 5 but was postponed to accommodate the presence of the Japanese ambassador since the tournament is sponsored by the Embassy.
Musinami said they were ready to defend their titles.
“We have got over 60 fighters in camp who are preparing but we are still making our assessments to see if they meet the grade because we have set a standard.
“We are hoping that at least in the 13 categories that are there we can field three to five fighters in each category. On Wednesday that’s when we are going to have the final team.
“We have most of the defending champions like Kelly Mtisi in the senior category, Tinashe Matika in the Under-55kg and Austin Mucheni,” said Musinami.
The Kuz acting technical director said they know what to expect in the tournament.
“I think the preparations have been a bit tough for the fighters because we have tried to meet the world standard for our fighters and for those who did not have the stamina dropped out. I am satisfied with the preparations we have been doing, our camp is geared up and raring to go.
“During winter we were concentrating on conditioning and now there is has been a lot of fighting but we have reduced the fights a bit so that we don’t have injuries as we are getting close to the tournament. It’s going to be exciting. I feel it’s not going to be easy because the other full contact styles have been training because they also want to win but I feel we will defend most of our titles,” said Musinami.
The Kyokushin Union, which was supposed to hold a karate seminar this coming weekend, had to postpone the programme as they concentrate on the Japanese tournament and World championships’ preparations.
“We were supposed to have a seminar this weekend but it was postponed so that we focus on the Japanese Cup tournament and the World championships. The final selection is on Wednesday,” said Kuz chairman, Steven Charandura.
