Musonho wins Carling Black Ball Challenge

SHYLET Musonho from Bulawayo won the women’s category of the National Carling Black Label Challenge at Raylton Recreation Club on Saturday. Musonho walked away with $500, a cue and three cases of Carling Black Label beer.The three-time national finalist, Musonho beat Mariam Chunyakobvu of Kwekwe 2-0 in the final.

“I have been in the finals three times and I can’t express how I feel after finally winning,” said Musonho.

The Exchange Bar player encouraged other women to take part in pool sport as it is now a growing sporting discipline.

“I encourage more women to get involved in sport, pool is developing and we expect more players especially women,” she said.
Bulawayo women did well in the event with Sithembinkosi Dube finishing fourth.
Runner-up Chunyakobvu won $250, a T-shirt, cap and one case of beer, while third placed Kent Mlauzi walked away $150 and a case of beer richer while Dube took home $100.

The two Bulawayo women made up for their male counterparts’ poor showing. None of them was able to make it to the last 16.
Takunda Chakuraya of Harare is the national champion in the men’s category after shrugging off stiff competition from 63 other men.
He was presented with $1000 prize money, a cue and two cases of Black Label beer.

Chakuraya won the title after defeating Tapiwa Chakwenya of Kwekwe 2-1 in the men’s finals.
Chakwenya walked away with $600, a cue stick and two cases of Black Label beer while third place went to Munyaradzi Nedziwe who received $300, a cue stick and a case of beer.

Fourth placed Elvis Madamombe was given $200, a T-shirt, cap and one beer case.
