UNHERALDED Mutare-born reggae and Afro-pop musician, Finton Mumbure, popularly known as I-Finton is shinning in Germany and putting Zimbabwean music on the international map.
In an interview through WhatApps on Monday, I-Finton said a lot has been happening since he left for Germany in September 2014.
In 2013, the versatile songwriter, guitarist and singer toured France and Holland, performing at different festivals, which is where he sharpened his skills before relocating to Germany, his new base.
In August last year I–Finton, signed a big recording contract with a German recording label, Badaudio Basement. He has since produced a four track Extended Play project titled “Get ready.”
The EP consists of the title track “Get ready”, “Life yemuGhetto”. “Ndinozvimisa and ‘If I make it in life.”
He said he was currently promoting the EP project in Germany and would soon produce his debut album this year after adding some collaborations with Zimbabwean artistes.
“I do not want to produce an album yet which is why I opted for the EP project just to announce myself in the industry. I play a fusion of reggae and Afro-pop producing a music style that I call Afro-reggae funk. I have been promoting the EP at several festivals in Germany and Belgium and the response has been wonderful,” said I-Finton.
The 30- year old artiste said his musical career in Germany has since taken a huge leap unlike the dark period during his stint back home when he struggled to break through.
He added that like several Mutare artistes he worked with back home, the likes of Tony D, Yung P, Kritik Igwe and Teknik to mention a few, he had struggled to breakthrough in the music industry since 2004.
I –Finton however called on Zimbabweans to celebrate their own artistes particularly those in the diaspora.
“Jamaicans and Nigerians support their own wherever they are. Zimbabweans we tend to pull each other down. I hope that will soon change if we expect to grow our music industry internationally,” said I-Finton.
Meanwhile, I-Finton said he will be coming home in February and is billed to perform a show with reggae sensation, Mic Inity, at the Golden Peacock on February 12.
