MUTARE Chiefs and Mutare Volleyball Divas won the 2015 Volleyball End of Year Tournament held at Mutare Poly recently.
A total of five teams took part in the tournament. In the men’s category, there was Mutare Chiefs, Nyanga Mavericks and Nyashanu High School, while Mutare Divas and Nyashanu were the women’s teams.
Manicaland Volleyball chairman, Farai Mboto, urged more teams to participate in such tournaments.
“I appeal to teams participate in such tournaments so that they become viable and increase visibility in the province. I would like to thank the teams that participated and despite the low turnout it has been a memorable year for Manicaland volleyball,” he said.

Meanwhile, Enzanai Madzivire from CAVB (Confederation of African Volleyball) who is based in Egypt visited Mutare recently to observe progress made on the ground in the African Dream Project.
Madzivire and Manicaland coach, Aaron Mutede, took the athletes through training focusing on the fundamental skills development. Commenting in the skill levels of the athletes, Madzivire applauded the coach for a job well-done indicating that what he observed was typically what the African Dream Project Model specifies.
“The coach has been doing great and I am amazed by the levels of the skills displayed by these youngsters. This is typically what the African Dream Project Model specifies,” he said. African Dream Project is a brain child of the Federation of International Volleyball president, Ary Graca, aimed at identifying talent among eight to 10-year-old players.
Manicaland was the first centre to launch the project in June this year. Mboto said the African Dream Project was a step in the right direction as far as development of volleyball was concerned.
“African Dream Project is in the right direction in as far as development of volleyball is concerned. It shapes players correctly and offers them with the modern basic skills required in their future competences,” he said.
