ZIFA Eastern Region Division One side, Mutare City Rovers will have a restful Easter Holiday after reassuming top spot, but their coach, Kenny ‘Bokande’ Kachara insists that he is not reading too much into being log leaders, instead he is focusing on the bigger picture of returning to top-flight league football.

Gusha Bhora, as City Rovers are fondly referred to, are back on the summit of the log standings, thanks to a hard fought away triumph over Lowveld United during the same weekend that their competitors in the Premiership promotion race, GreenFuel settled for a draw at home against Chiredzi Stars.

In recent weeks, GreenFuel had assumed log leadership and it only took last weekend’s slip up at home against Chiredzi Stars that the Lloyd Mutasa-coached team surrendered the top spot to the City of Mutare municipality outfit.

But Kachara is not bothered at all about who is on temporarily on top of the log standings, instead his mission is to focus on each match with nothing, but three points in mind.

“Yes, we are back at the summit of the table, but that is the least of my worries. I am not even celebrating that personally. I am more focused with each next match for my team and all I want is to ensure we get maximum points from every match we play.

“All I want is to make sure that we get back into the Premiership at the end of this season. That is on top of my priority list. To achieve that, we just have to strive to win every match we play,” said Kachara.

Mutare City Rovers have tasted Premiership football action before and were twice demoted in 2016 and 2018 respectively.

Meanwhile, ZIFA Eastern Region board member (marketing and rebranding), Bejamin Chindima expressed satisfaction at how the 2022 league season is progressing.

Chindima confirmed that there will be no league matches during the Easter break.

“I want to thank all our stakeholders for bringing the region’s football back to its former glory days. The competition is top drawer and the attendance is improving with each week.

“As we approach the Easter holiday break, I would like to wish you all a joyous and stress free rest. There will be no football in Zimbabwe as both the PSL and regional matches will be on hold during these holidays.

“Mashonaland East Province will have two or four teams from our league playing on Independence Day. The SRC has asked us to partner them on Independence Day to help celebrate our nation’s birthday and we will gladly take the centre stage and celebrate with the rest of Zimbabwe. When we return from the Easter holidays, our matches will resume as scheduled,” said Chindima.
