MUTARE city councillors have raised concern over the local authority’s failure to meet its targets in service provision during its first 100-day plan.
Councillors complained during a full council meeting recently that council was failing to meet its obligations, especially in water reticulation.
Ward 1 Councillor Thomas Nyamupangedengu said he was concerned over the local authority’s failure to provide water services at public places, especially in Sakubva.
Clr Nyamupangedengu said council always set goals that it never achieved.
“We have from our last meetings 100-day plans and resolutions that we set including putting some water at public places like drinking halls at Chigomba in Sakubva,” he said.
“Some of us endure humiliating experiences when we visit these places with respectable persons.
‘‘We all know how drunkards act sometimes when they take alcohol.
‘‘During the clean up exercise I had to pick human excrete using my hands to show people how bad the situation was.”
Mutare Mayor Clr Blessing Tandi acknowledged the concerns that were raised, but attributed the situation to financial problems faced by council.
“Our 100-day plans have always had successes, but with some failures as well,” he said.
“These failures are a result of the current economic challenges. asLack of resources have always been a pull back to our goals, but we are working towards them.
“We are targeting to come up with another 100-day plan that would make up remedies to the outstanding projects we have not been able to fix as the council.”
Councillors also raised concern over the state of roads in Mutare which they say council should consider as a priority.
