MUTARE-born 24-year-old gospel hip-hop artiste, Blessing Maramba, whose stage name is GGB (God’s Greatest Blessing) is currently riding high with his video Zvakufaya (Set free) featuring the multi-gospel award winning, flamboyant Mudiwa ‘Hood’ Mutandwa. GGB who released his 10-track debut album ‘In the beginning’ in December last year said he believes a lot was in tow from him as a gospel hip-hop artiste following the footsteps of Mudiwa.
The video of the song, which was produced by urban grooves star Nox, was shot on High Definition and is archetypal of Mudiwa’s flashy videos with the swag and mansions showing off how his new-turned life under Jesus Christ is now blessed (zvakufaya).
Zvakufaya was for the past month on top of the charts on the ZBC-TV breakfast programme YGT Sunday gospel hip-hop charts, whilst the album has been receiving generous airplay across all the local airwaves.
GGB who is an Architectural Drafting final year student at Intec College in Johannesburg, South Africa, said his album was inspired to preach the word of God to youths who love hip-hop music, thus the title ‘In the beginning.’ He said he got the name GGB from his pastor, Apostle George Jongwe of House of Liberty International Ministry.
“I was struggling with a stage name as a gospel hip-hop artiste until one day when I was talking to Apostle Jongwe at church and he called me God’s greatest blessing.
“It just struck me and I decided to call myself GGB,” he said.
GGB’s lyrics are mixed using both Shona and English whilst most of his songs talk about social issues in general.
He said he derived inspiration from other local gospel hip-hop artistes like Mudiwa that have been in the game for a while to give local gospel hip-hop the face it has today.
“I see myself making a name in the industry as a gospel hip-hop artiste. Music runs in my veins and I love singing for the Lord,” said GGB.
He said he was planning to stage a show in Mutare in August as he comes out to the world with his music.
