Mutare mechanic has the Midas touch

The Zim-Midas Parts Challenge is an annual competition introduced in 2001 to foster greater professionalism in the parts trade. Each year scores of parts experts get involved, including technicians, sales people and other tradesmen and professionals.
According to Zim-Midas, competitors write an initial test in one of the four centres in which Zim-Midas operates — Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare and Kwekwe.
“The three top-placed people from each of the four centres then go into a national final examination, from which the overall top three are determined,” Zim-Midas said.
The test was written by 12 finalists from across Zimbabwe, each of whom had successfully made the top three in the regional tests held in August in the four centres serviced by Zim-Midas.
The runners-up were Mr Blessward Gunda and Mr Wellington Mhundwa, both of whom work for AMC Graniteside, Harare.
Also present at the prize-giving ceremony was Clover Leaf Motors group marketing manager Mr Admire Ndumo, who praised all entrants for their willingness to take part and to help improve the general standards of the parts trade through self-improvement and training.
Zim-Midas is part of the Clover Leaf Motors Group and has sponsored the parts challenge for the past 10 years.
