MUTARE Polytechnic College students this morning donated 76 blankets to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital in a gesture aimed at improving patient comfort as colder months set in across Manicaland.
The donation, driven by student fundraising efforts under the national studies module, will benefit female, maternity and other inpatient wards at the provincial referral hospital.
Speaking during the donation event, the principal Ms Poniso Watema praised the students for turning classroom learning into practical community support, adding that the gesture reflected civic responsibility and values nurtured at the institution.

“Ubuntu in action. Civic responsibility is not just a subject in a classroom; it is a way of life,” she said. Ms Watema also commended hospital staff for their continued service to the province’s patients.
Student representative Miss Idah Manwere said students raised USD 1 284 through collective contributions and voluntary savings, noting that even small sacrifices mattered in reaching the goal.
VCPH medical superintendent, Dr Hilary Makiwa expressed gratitude for the donation, saying it would improve comfort and dignity across several hospital units, including medical, surgical, maternity and mental health wards.
“In our wards, a blanket is more than fabric. It is warmth, comfort and dignity. The blankets will be distributed to patients in need as winter approaches,” he said.
