MUTARE Pool League action resumes after a one week break, with the national team selection competitions as well as the routine league contest at various venues across the city.
The All Africa Pool Association (AAPA) national team selection competition will be co-hosted by Shoverland in Chikanga Phase Two and Villa Spot in Dangamvura respectively.
Matches will be played on a race to five format, while the registration is pegged at US$5.
MPL fixtures secretary, Lloyd Samanga said: “Each club is expected to submit six players.
Three players will go to Shoverland in Chikanga and the other three players to Villa Spot in Dangamvura.
“The AAPA qualifiers are meant to select players who will be part of the national team ahead of the continental competition to be held in South Africa.
“For purposes of the draw, top eight Mutare Weekly tournament players will be seeded as well as 2023 Carling Black Label regional champions for Manicaland.
“We will have our usual MPL matches on Sunday at various venues across the city.”
The MPL took a break last week to mourn their treasurer, Givemore Madiro who died last week on Wednesday, and was laid to rest at his Kariba home on Saturday.
MPL chairman, Peter Mkwananzi, said: “Our late treasurer, Givemore Madiro was laid to rest in Kariba last week on Saturday. I would like to thank all those who contributed towards the funeral. We also want to thank Zimbabwe Pool Association (ZIPA) for helping us to raise the money.
“We are also thankful to our guys who represented us in Kariba. They did us proud. Special mention to our committee member, Harris Shoni for running around to ensure that our colleague gets a befitting send-off. All the money which was raised was used to meet all the funeral expenses.”
