MUTARE Teachers College marked its 65th graduation and prize-giving ceremony with a powerful message of innovation, empowerment, and national development.
The graduation was held under the theme – Modernising the Economy through Commercialisation of Innovations.
A total of 780 graduates – comprising 187 males (24 per cent) and 593 females (76 per cent) – received their diplomas, reflecting the growing participation of women in education.
Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Deputy Minister, Honourable Simelisizwe Sibanda praised the college for aligning its goals with those of the nation.
“By equipping women with pedagogical and leadership skills, Mutare Teachers College is not only bridging the gender gap, but also accelerating grassroots empowerment and national development,” he said.
Honourable Sibanda also praised the college’s practical innovations like the Komoyo Juice and Water Processing Plant, which employs graduates and student interns.
“Commercialization is the bridge between knowledge and prosperity. It is the process through which our innovations become industries, our ideas become enterprises, and our graduates become employers,” he said, further highlighting the institution’s role in research, community engagement, and regional integration like the Language Exchange Policy with Mozambican students and the hosting of the 4th National Research Symposium.
The college principal, Mr Admire Mutubuki echoed the ministry’s vision of Education 5.0, emphasizing the importance of a modular and heritage-based curriculum.
“Our research outputs are testimony to our institution’s commitment to solving real-life problems. The commercialization of these outputs strengthens partnerships between academia, industry, and policymakers,” he said.
Mr Mutubuki also highlighted infrastructural improvements, including the refurbishment of hostels, solarized boreholes, and the construction of a sports field bridge. He noted the college’s recent accolades, among them the 2025 National Innovation Award and 2025 Tertiary Institution Award.
