MWOS remains unharmed in the Castle Lager Premiership after their first eight games, as they settled for a goalless draw against Simba Bhora at Wadzanai on Saturday.
They have now registered three draws and five wins, which puts them in the driver’s seat of the championship race.
Lloyd Mutasa’s men are three points ahead of second-placed Simba Bhora, who have managed 15 points during the period under review.
It was an end-to-end fixture, as Simba Bhora demonstrated why they are the defending champions, and MWOS also held their own to justify that it is not by coincidence that they are at the top of the pile.
Mutasa’s troops have emerged as one of the most entertaining teams in the domestic league, and midfielder Tinotenda Mutyambizi appears to be a major reason.
The gritty midfielder bossed Simba Bhora’s midfielders for the better part of the game, as he restricted the hosts from penetrating MWOS through the center of the park.
He made the absence of the team’s anchorman, Mathew Murambiwa, who was ruled out due to suspension, less noticeable.
MWOS fans showed their appreciation for his athleticism, cheering his successful tackles and completed passes.
Many were left convinced that Mutyambizi, who is also known as Diesel (Dhiziri) due to his industriousness, might rise to mainstream prominence if he can maintain the quality he has shown.
Mutasa also showered Mutyambizi with praise, insisting that fans should expect more from him.
“He is improving with each outing, the good thing is that age is still on his side, and you can only expect more from him.
“Mutyambizi is a true definition of a workaholic, and if he keeps working hard, we will definitely get more than what we are seeing at the moment,” said Mutasa.
He also hailed his team for their spirited approach at Wadzanai.
MWOS have now registered seven clean sheets this season.
“We knew it was always going to be a tough game for us, but getting a point and a clean sheet means a lot to us,” he said.
“We had a few chances that we could have scored, and it’s something we are still working on, but we now have to regroup and try to get goals as we move forward.
“For a team that is coming from a lower division, you can only be proud of this team, but our goal remains to survive relegation.”
