MWOS FC versus Black Rhinos!

New school versus Old School!

The ZIFA Northern Region Division One soccer league could not have asked for a better start than the explosive showdown today between MWOS and Black Rhinos at Ngoni tomorrow.

Two-time Zimbabwe champions, Black Rhinos, are back in Division One after losing their place in the Premiership in heart-breaking fashion on the final day of last season.

They turned to Yabo, a Division One specialist, who takes on Mutasa, who is another coach who has an impressive record, when it comes to winning the league championship in the lower league.

MWOS are targeting a place in the top-flight to become the second Mashonaland West side to do so in two seasons on the trot.

They watched from a distance last year as unfashionable Chegutu, just 60 kms down the highway, secured the championship.

Mutasa and his men spent a week bonding in Kariba and the message was clear — win the championship for the people of Norton.

Tomorrow they will get a fair assessment of where they stand in their pursuit for honours.

Cranborne Bullets, the club which Yabo was in charge of last year, are now under Sammy Mavhenyengwa.

He believes they will have a good start to the campaign when they take on newcomers Agama FC at Motor Action this afternoon.

“We have been preparing well and the pre-season went on well. The boys are looking forward to the new season and are eager to return to the top-flight.

“We lost almost the entire team but we have the confidence that we will make a quick return to the top-flight.

“We have to show our intentions from tomorrow (today)’s game against Agama FC. If we win the opening match it will give confidence to the youngsters who we brought on board.”

The team was left with only four players — Christopher Charakupa, Honey Chimutimunzeve, Doni Melusi and Xavia Janatana — from last season’s side.

Agama FC gained promotion from Mashonaland Central Division Two A and team manager, Norman Gutsa, believes the opening match will introduce them to the league in style.

“There is a lot to play for and we have a good side that boasts of experience in former Harare City player Lenox Mtisi, goalkeeper Nomore Jones, who was with Simba Bhora, Linton Muzinda, Tafadzwa Nyahuyanga Ralph Nyamuparinga, among several others.

“We will not be bothered by their status that they were in the top-flight last season as we are now playing at the same level.”
