Mutasa wins two medals in Vienna

Vienna, Austria.
Mutasa, who is also a student at Girls High School, finished first in the 50m breaststroke in a time of 00:50,86seconds.
She came second in the 50m front crawl in 00:43,68seconds to scoop the silver and her second medal of the tournament.
Zimbabwe was the only African country out of about 25 countries that took part in different sporting disciplines that included swimming, soccer, volleyball, wrestling, tennis etc.
Other countries that took part in the event are Belgium, China, Denmark, Germany, Slovakia, Norway, Hungary and the hosts Austria.
It was the second time for Zimbabwe to take part in the event, having participated last year, when they returned home empty-handed.
Mutasa was supposed to have competed in four swimming categories but missed the freestyle and butterfly.
“It was somehow frightening competing against other swimmers from different countries, it was a tough event and it came as a surprise winning the gold and silver medals.
“I think I could have won in the other heats that I failed to take part in since we were rushing to catch a flight back home,” said Mutasa.
The Bulldogs Sports Development Trust travelled with eight swimmers – Takudzwa Kanombirira, Rutendo Mafuta, Tanaka Mapfumo, Charlene Marawanyi, Joseph Maringe, Shawn Muchero and Beverley Mutsekwa – but only Mutasa scooped the medals.
Coach of Bulldogs Sports Development, Trust Frank Chivaura, was pleased with performance of the team.
“The tournament was okay, we leant a lot of things and it was a well organised event compared to last year’s.
“It was an eye opening tournament for the kids, it boosted their confidence and morale as well. “We are happy to have participated and brought the medals home, we are hoping to travel with a bigger group of volleyball, soccer, tennis and other disciplines of boys and girls teams next year.
“We would like to express our gratitude to the parents who supported us and the Bulldogs Sports Development Trust for organising a fruitful event, ” said Chivaura.
The Bulldogs Sports Development Trust was founded in 2009 and is a non-profit-making sports organisation which aims at transforming vulnerable children and young people into sports ambassadors.
