The Under-13 got a floating trophy in their category where they were judged to be the team that had the right age for the ninth edition of the East Africa Cup.

The Young Warriors could only reach the quarter-finals where Mysa of Kenya beat them by 7-1.
Zimbabwe played well in their first match against the host Tanzania whom their beat 3-1, and the second match against Uganda.

The Under-13 team manager Israel Nhawu said he was happy with the team’s performance during the East Africa Cup.
“I am very happy with the boys who played so well, if only there was no age cheating among other teams, maybe we could have been the winners in the Under-13 boys category.

“The boys were also happy that although they did not manage to win, we had a good experience at the tournament,” said Nhawu.
Zambia was among the teams that were told to produce birth certificates for some of their players as they were suspected of age-cheating.

Zambia’s Under-16 boys’ coach said all their players had the right age required for the specific category.
The Zambians later withdrew from the tournament.

One of the organisers of the East Africa Cup Henry Majale said this year’s edition was very interesting as they introduced new discipli-nes.
“This year’s edition was very interesting as we introduced new disciplines to the tournament, which includes volleyball and sitting volleyball.

“Our achievements are more than the challenges that we faced during the tournament,” said Majale.
East Africa Cup organisers managed to host workshops for the participants where they were taught a number of issues, including how to be a successful leader in different sporting disciplines.
