Mutendera sees a bright future

form at the Hellenics Colts Day recently where they won the final against St. Johns.
The talents at the schools competitions have persuaded the national Under-13 and Under-14 teams coach Mutendera to believe that Zimbabwe has a bright future.
“There is also talent which is found in the former Group A and private schools. The future of cricket in Zimbabwe therefore is bright.
“ This talent needs to be nurtured at an early age and tournaments of this nature help in developing cricket in Zimbabwe at grassroots level,” said Mutendera.
He said he was impressed by Chipembere who dominated the Hellenic Schools Colts day/night Cricket festival and winning the final against a strong St John’s Colts team.
Eight teams took part at the festival, with two groups comprising of four teams.
The top school from each group automatically qualified for the final.
Chipembere and St. John’s finished first in their groups and then clashed in the final.
Chipembere had to overcome a spirited Hellenic team in the group stages to qualify for the final.
They also won their matches against Twin Rivers and Lilfordia.
Chipembere coach Isaiah Makiyi was delighted with his team’s performance.
“It was a good overall performance by the boys. We batted, fielded and bowled well.
“In the past matches we played, our fielding and bowling had been letting us down but it came good hence the wonderful performance,” said Makiyi.
St John’s and Hellenic School were the other schools which did very well at the tournament with St John’s finishing second followed by Hellenic in third place.
The All-rounder of the Festival award went to Takudzwa Mahachi of Chipembere and the most outstanding bowler was Connor Higgins of St John’s.
The best fielder of the festival was Mahachi who was outstanding on the field, taking two brilliant catches for Chipembere.
John Oscar Campbell of Hellenic scored the most runs in the festival and he was duly rewarded with the best batsman award.
