MUSICIAN Energy Mutodi’s cousin has introduced himself on the music scene with the release of his six-track afro-jazz debut album titled “Ndapera Nyasha”. Tich Mutodi, who fronts the Nzukwa Identity Band, released his debut album a few days ago, which he says captures the socio-economic challenges the general populace were facing.
The 44-year-old, who started his music career in childhood, said he engaged the services of renowned saxophonist Phillip Svosve on his debut album.
“I released the album some few days ago and it is expected to be on the market by Wednesday.
“Everything is already in place and I have put measures to make sure it reaches most music shops in the morning of the same day. I engaged Phillip Svosve on one of the songs which I feel was done with perfection,” he said.
Asked why he did not follow in the steps of his cousin Energy, who is into rhumba, Tich said his choice of music was motivated by his background.
“My father was also a musician. He played music during his time and it was during that time that I also learnt playing some instruments.
“I was young by then. I grew up in Bikita before moving to Harare. I then moved to the United Kingdom where I spend a lot time.
“I did a number of tracks although I did not record them. I came here to launch my career and this album marks my entry into the music industry,” he said.
“Ndapera Nyasha” carries songs “Babamukuru”, “Kuhwereketa”, “Kwauri”, “Mbona-Mbona”, “Makanaka”, “Sapere” and the instrumental version of “Babamukuru”. The album was recorded at Revival Studios.
