Mutongwiza set for Sables

Zamchiya, yesterday confirmed the meeting in what would be the first official gathering with the committee since he took over the reins from Dumile Sibanda last week.
“We will meet on Wednesday (tomorrow) and that will be my first meeting with the committee as I have just been appointed chairman.
“At the moment I can not say much and I would not want to preempt so I will wait till Thursday and will be able to make a statement then,” said the former Old Hararians chairman.
The Zimbabwe Rugby Union last week announced the coaches for all the national teams from the Sables to the schools Under-18 Sevens side, save for the women’s team, and all the team mangers.
Huge doubts surround the return of National Rugby League president Noddy Kanyangarara as Sables manager after he was accused of not being able to maintain order in the Sables camp and allegedly plotting a technical coup against Dawson.
Dawson yesterday refused to comment on the manager’s issue saying the Sables committee, together with the ZRU, were handling the issue.
“I have been given a chance to chose whom I can work with.
“I will be working with Cyprian (assistant coach) but I will only know who I will be working with as the team manager from the ZRU and the Sables committee who are handling the issue,” said the former Sables captain.
Former Sables manager Losson Mtongwiza is expected to make a comeback into the structures, three years after he left to concentrate on family commitments.
Mtongwiza left the baton in Kanyangarara’s hands.
Kanyangarara, however, appeared overwhelmed by his duties as team manager, mostly failing to instill discipline in the players.
Cases against Kanyangarara are that in 2010 the Sables traveled to Uganda where he failed to control his temper and slapped Ugandan liaison officer Chris Lubanga in front of the players after Zimbabwe had complained about being booked into a sub-standard hotel.
The former Old Hararians assistant coach’s case against Lubanga had to be resolved at the Kira Road police station in Kampala.
Kanyangarara is also believed to have set a coup against Dawson.
Then Dawson was a Level One holder and it was only last year that the most capped Sable, with a hundred caps, attained his Level Two coaching certificate.
Mtongwiza – who has since relocated to Zimbabwe from South Africa – is expected to take over from Kanyangarara.
Mtongwiza is a former Old Hararians technical member, and has also worked with Sports Club as the team manager before he was voted in as the ZRU vice president to Bryn Williams.
After his dance with the executive, he was appointed Sables manager where Dawson was assisted by current ZRU president John Falkenburg and Mandenge while Kanyangarara was the assistant manager.
Kanyangarara then took over as the head manager.
