where he was recently seconded to the organising committee of this year’s 10th All-Africa Games.
The 2011 All-Africa Games are set to run from September 3 to 18 in Maputo and Mutsauki was recently “deployed” by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (Anoca) to work closely with the Games organising committee for the next four months.
Mutsauki is now working full-time as the Technical Director of Anoca and is based at the organisation’s headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.
Anoca oversee the staging of the All-Africa Games and they recently accepted a request by this year’s Games’ organising committee for Mutsauki to help them in the planning and organising of the continental sporting showcase for the next four months.
Mutsauki was scheduled to travel from Abuja to Maputo last weekend to take up his “new post” in the Mozambican capital.
But the veteran sports administrator told The Herald from his base in Abuja yesterday that he was unable to travel to Maputo last weekend as scheduled due to some logistical issues.
“My trip to Maputo was delayed by the Maputo Games organising committee (Coja) at the last minute (last Friday afternoon).
“They indicated that they still had to attend to some logistical issues and will give me a new date of arrival in the near future,” Mutsauki said.
Mutsauki was initially asked by Coja to travel to Maputo last weekend where he was expected to stay for the next four months, working closely with the All-Africa Games organising committee to ensure the successful organisation and hosting of this big continental sporting event.
This came as a result of a visit to Maputo in February by a high-powered Anoca delegation to inspect the Games venues and facilities.
It was during this inspection visit that the director-general of Coja-Maputo 2011, Jose Salome Cossa, made a formal request to Anoca through the National Olympic Committee of Mozambique to have Mutsauki, in his capacity as the Anoca Technical Director, seconded to Coja for a four-month period to assist with organisational and technical aspects in the run-up to and during the Games.
Anoca approved the request and gave their thumbs up to Mutsauki to travel to Maputo for his “new” posting, only returning to the Anoca headquarters after the Games.
But there now has been a delay in Mutsauki’s departure for Maputo and the veteran Zimbabwean administrator will just have to wait to hear from Ccoja-Maputo 2011 on when exactly they would like him to join their team there.
