MULTIPLE homicide suspect Jason Muvevi has been indicted for trial, which is set to begin on March 16 next year at the Harare High Court.

The trial is scheduled to run until March 20.

Muvevi, who was committed to Chikurubi Psychiatric Unit in 2023 after being declared mentally ill, was recently deemed fit to stand trial following two years of medical treatment.

Facing five murder charges and three attempted murder charges, Muvevi’s alleged crimes date back to November 19, 2022.

It is alleged that he fatally shot Nyarai Round in the head with a pistol at Gel-Court, Caruthers Avenue, Eastlea, Harare, causing injuries that led to her death.

On the same occasion, he reportedly shot Nyasha Eusen, leaving him with serious shoulder injuries.

The gold dealer is said to have unleashed another shooting spree in January 2023, claiming the lives of three individuals.

Among the injured was a police officer who was left battling for his life in hospital.

According to court documents, Muvevi arrived at an apostolic sect shrine led by Chrispen Kanerusine, accompanied by one Shupikai Muvevi, his mother.

Dressed in all black, which contradicts the church’s doctrine, he was given a white cloth to cover himself.

During the sermon, Muvevi allegedly left the group, went to his vehicle parked nearby and returned with an FN Browning pistol, using it to shoot the preacher in the head.

After the shooting, the Officer-in-Charge of Hwedza Police Station, Inspector Maxwell Hove, assembled his response team to investigate the incident.

They encountered Muvevi along the Hwedza-Murambinda Highway and attempted to confront him, but he opened fire, hitting Hove three times in the head, resulting in the officer’s death.

Constable Tendai Mugova was also shot in the stomach and pelvis.

Muvevi then made a U-turn, driving towards Murambinda Business Centre, where he shot and killed Munashe Munjani after a brief conversation.

On January 14, he reportedly went to Mutare Boys High School, firing three shots but missing another complainant who had refused to give him food.

Following these incidents, Muvevi fled across the border and was later arrested in Mozambique.
