Muwengwa’s brother safeguards family legacy

FORMER Studio 263 actor and musician, Nevernay “Muwengwa” Chinyanga’s legacy is in safe hands, 12 years after his death.

Muwengwa’s younger brother, Batsirai, who is also a talented actor and singer, has vowed to follow in the footsteps of the late actor.

Batsirai, will be launching his latest album titled Hazvidi Mutsimba on October 5 at Eastpoint (formerly Jazz 105).

“I am going to be launching this album (Hazvidi Mutsimba) next week

“I can now finally say that we are ready to launch this album at Eastpoint which used to be Jazz 105 from 6pm till late.

“Tickets will be going for US$5 general and the VIPs are already sorted,” he said.

Unpacking his latest album, Batsirai said:

Hazvide Mutsimba carries eight solid tracks. These include Mafans Ngaafare, Rumbidza Musiki, Usavarairwa Hama Yangu, Kura Mupfungwa, Sanzu Nemashizha Aro, Gavi Rakabva Kumasvuuriro, Hazvidi Mutsimba and Makaita Basa Mukanya.

“The album was recorded at Trutone Studio by Jabulani Ndlovu.

“It was also mixed by veteran producer Bothwell Nyamhondera, a renowned producer, who has worked with several musicians for years,” said Batsirai.

The energetic performer said he has invited fellow artists to his launch to promote solidarity.

“Our guest of honour for the album launch is Alick Macheso.

“The other artists, who are coming, include Nicholas Zakaria, Somandla Ndebele, Progress Chipfumo, First Farai, Senator Tichareva, Howard Pinjisi, Simon Mutambi and Samanyanga,” he told H-Metro.

Asked how many albums he has released to date, he said:

“I have released six albums so far and Hazvidi Mutsimba will be the seventh one.

“On my first album, I was helped by Macheso who gave me free studio space to record.

“On that same album, Mark Ngwazi was my backing vocalist and, for my second and third albums, I worked with Tindo Ngwazi, little brother to Mark.”

Chinyanga said he was proud of his five-member team.

“Since 2012, when I started recording music, I have been working with my band called Dinhidza Express.

“Band members include Vipas Zvikaramba, Shepherd Gobs, Kutendaishe Chinyanga, Barnabas Mandipota, myself Batsirai Chinyanga and Charles Musungwa,” he said.
