Muzondiwa’s shiny FC Platinum show

HE has scored eight times in his last eight league games but such impressive statistics have not translated into rave reviews for Brian Muzondiwa. It’s rather ironic that the FC Platinum striker’s Whatsapp status message is borrowed from Killer T’s famous lyrics: “Vagara vanongovenga kunyangwe ukagona zvakaitasei. (They will always hate no matter how much good you to).”
“It’s just a status, I love the song and there is no hidden meaning to it,” said the 23 year old hit man.

Muzondiwa has been the leading light at FC Platinum with his goals propelling his side to within touching distance of log leaders Chicken Inn.
His free scoring form has made him a firm contender for the golden boot award as he is now just two goals behind leading pair of Knox Mutizwa of Highlanders and Chicken Inn’s Edmore Chirambadare.

However, Muzondiwa says he is not chasing personal glory, insisting his eyes are firmly focused on making sure that Pure Platinum Play finish the season with some silverware.

“Of course I am scoring goals but I am not paying much attention to it because it’s a result of team work and at the end of it all my job is to score and that is what I am doing,” he said.

“I want to thank my coach Norman Mapeza for working on my weaknesses and helping me polish my strengths.
“Hopefully I will continue scoring and help us realise our goals at the end of the season. My personal goal is the same as my team’s and that is to win something at the end of the season.

“We have been playing well this season and deserve to end the year with something to show for all this effort. Just like everyone at the club I am not reading much into what is happening with the other teams, I am just concentrating at the job at hand.

“We are united here at FC Platinum and that unity will take us far. We went through a dry spell at the beginning of the season and that experience strengthened us and our coach encouraged us to work for each other.”

While lauding the team effort at FC Platinum the on fire striker says playing alongside big Tarisai Rukanda has benefitted him greatly.
“Tarisai works hard and uses his big body to shield the ball away from defenders, leaving me with a chance to use my speed to get into the space he creates,” said Muzondiwa.

Mapeza, who has brought the best out of some players who were deemed ordinary or past their peak, says Muzondiwa can reach the stars if he continues to work hard.

“Brian is a fantastic player,” he said.
“The boy has searing pace which troubles many defenders and if he continues working hard, he is going places.
“He is s player who plays for the team more than personal glory and if he religiously follows the training regime that we set for him, he is going to go places. He is a very good player, with so much talent.”
