Mvula targets Golden Glove

Bruce Chikuni

DYNAMOS goalkeeper, Taimon Mvula, says he is aiming for the Golden Glove, for the second time, in three seasons.

Two seasons ago, he won the ZIFA Southern Region Division One Golden Glove, after 21 clean sheets, for Hwange.

The 29-year-old is making a good case to take home the gong with 16 clean sheets so far.

Mvula’s brilliance has seen the Glamour Boys conceding just 12 times in 26 fixtures.

And, he’s probably the reason DeMbare are still in the championship race despite being six points off the pace.

“It’s my big wish to win the individual prize, but my main concern is to help the team to fight for the championship,” said Mvula.

“We still have a big chance to win the league because in football, it’s not over until it’s over.

“We have seen great upsets on the last day of the season and it’s our hope to experience such drama in our favour.”

Log leaders FC Platinum are no strangers to slipping up on the last day of the season.

They once surrendered the championship to Dynamos in 2011 in their debut season in the elite league.

Rahman Gumbo was in charge of the Zvishavane miners then.

And, it was that twist of fate which breathed life into Calisto Pasuwa’s coaching career.

He went on to win four championships on the trot.

Ironically, FC Platinum are also chasing their fourth successive title.

Mvula urged his teammates not to be demoralised by FC Platinum’s fine form.

“This is not the time to despair,” he said.

“We have a big chance of turning the tables around.

“History tells us that those who were here before us managed to win the championship under similar circumstances.

“We can also do the same if we put our best effort and count on history a bit.”
