The death toll from the Mvuma accident in which a commuter omnibus and a minibus collided at the 192km peg on the Harare-Masvingo road has reached 10, after another person died yesterday.

The fatal accident, which happened on Friday, also left 31 others in critical condition.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi yesterday said: “I can confirm that the death toll from Friday’s accident has since increased to 10. We will be notifying the next of kin soon.”

Asst Comm Nyathi said bodies of the victims are at the Mvuma Hospital mortuary for post-mortem while the 20 injured are admitted at the hospital.

“The other 11 injured passengers are admitted at Gweru Hospital,” he said.

Last year, 73 people were killed and 202 injured in 264 road traffic accidents recorded countrywide during Easter and Independence Day holidays.
