Mvumvure targets Olympic glory

Makusha made history by becoming the only Zimbabwean athlete ever to win a medal at a world athletics’ championships.
Mvumvure had started the year 2011 on a promising note, as he won the collegiate 100m at the LSU in a blistering 9.97s but the injury slowed his progress and he even failed to come for the All-Africa Games in Mozambique.
The former Churchill High student believes that his time last year is still good enough to secure him a place at the London 2012.
“Right now I am feeling great. My training has been going very well and with God willing, I’m going to leave a mark at the Olympics in London
“I really don’t know the window period for qualifying for Olympics, but my time from the 2011 season can get me through to Olympics.
“That is from the race I ran here at Louisiana State University in April 2011,” he said.
Mvumvure sustained the injury in May and had to seek treatment but never recovered to regain the fine form shown at his season’s opener.
“The race was actually my season opener but my season didn’t go so well because I ended up pulling my hamstring mid-season.
“I pulled my hamstring in May but I did my treatment and rehab to the point where I felt great.
“After that I travelled to South Korea for the World Championships but I didn’t have enough races under my belt to be able to perform well,” he said.
Set to be one of medal hopefuls for Zimbabwe in London, Mvumvure said he has put the disappointment behind him.
“I have scratched the 2011 season off my mind and I am looking forward to London 2012. I am promising fireworks this season and I pray that I bring a medal for Zimbabwe,” said the 24-year-old track star.
