Mwando went to train under the Ngumi Boxing Stable in August last year and returned home last month.
Malawian national, Stephen Msiska, is the director of the yard that also took on board Zimbabwean boxer Takudzwa Kuchocha for a training stint. During his stay in Mzuzu, Mwando fought five non-title fights, losing his first bout and winning the other four by knock-out.
“I think I learnt a lot in Malawi because I got the chance to fight at least once every month. Boxing in Malawi is well supported and I think I did well.
“Boxers in Malawi are good but I reckon those from Tanzania were tougher. I lost my first fight in Malawi because I was still unsettled but I improved after that,” he said.
The 22-year-old Mwando caused an upset at Mzuzu Stadium on October 30, 2011, when he knocked out Peter Mkwandawire in the first round of the scheduled 10-round bout.
During the first two minutes, Mwando pummelled the seasoned boxer and forced him to hit the canvas five times, according to reports in Malawi’s Daily Times.
Yesterday, Mwando was at his old training base at Raylton Sports Club.
