Mwanjali for Caps

FORMER national football team captain Method Mwanjali could sign for Caps United next month, Chronicle Sport can reveal. The second Premier Soccer League transfer window opens on July 1. Born and bred in Hwange, Mwanjali left the Colliery for Shabanie Mine when it was still under the legendary Moses Chunga and later crossed the floor to a then trailblazing Caps United.

“At the moment I’m clubless after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns. If all goes well I might return to Mpumalanga Black Aces,” said Mwanjali who is training with his childhood team Hwange FC.

“But if I come back to Zimbabwe I think I’ll return to my last team here, Caps United,” said Mwanjali in a brief interview just after a morning training session with Hwange FC last week.

He refuted reports that he was on his way to ailing Bulawayo giants Highlanders despite spirited overtures from some former Bosso players.

Sources said former AmaZulu hitman Ackim Muganyi has been on the forefront of pushing for Mwanjali to consider donning the black and white jersey.

“Ackim met Method recently and enquired about his career and when Mwanjali told him that he had severed ties with The Brazilians, Muganyi didn’t hesitate in telling him to join Highlanders. He (Muganyi) might not have played for Bosso himself but he has a lot of respect for the team and knows what it can do for someone,” said the source.

When Chronicle Sport visited the Hwange FC training session recently, Mwanjali was at his usual best with his crunch but decisive tackles.

“He’s still the Method Mwanjali we know, fit and a team player,” said Hwange Football Club gaffer Nation Dube.

At the Colliery, Mwanjali played alongside the likes of Gilbert Zulu, Aleck Nyoni, Chenjerai Dube, Timothy Sibanda, and Simon Sibanda.

He worked under the late Jones Chilengi and Weekly Mwale.
