THE Benjani Mwaruwari Soccer Festival continues this morning at White City Stadium after four teams made it to the semi-finals at the same venue yesterday. The four remaining teams are 2012 champions Bantu Rovers who edged Magwegwe High School 3-0, LMC who beat Mvuthu High 2-1, Mpumelelo, who came out tops 1-0 in the Mpopoma “derby” against Ajax Santos who dispatched Chicken Inn 3-0 in a penalty shoot following a 0-0 stalemate in regulation time.

The former Warriors striker Mwaruwari-bankrolled tournament entered its third successive year, in a short period in which it has produced youngsters who have broken the premier league barrier. These include Bantu Rovers trio of Bukhosi Sibanda, Denzel Khumalo and Mthabisi Tshuma.

South African soccer legend Sibusiso Zuma applauded the former Mancheser City striker’s efforts of supporting football development in his home country.

“Benjani is doing a good job by giving these youngsters an opportunity to showcase their skills. This is a commendable job, he is giving back to the community that helped him become what he is today,” said the Supersport United striker.

He encouraged the youngsters to take the game seriously because the grassroots mark the beginning of the beautiful game.

“We all came up through the same system, the boys have to give their all if they are to scale greater heights,” said Zuma.

ZIFA Bulawayo board member Mkhululi Mthunzi expressed gratitude for Benjani’s gesture of availing funds for such a tournament.

“We are grateful for what he has done for his brothers; he has shown that he has not forgotten where he came from. We truly appreciate his efforts,” said Mthunzi.
